So I have found this fun site that I will be using to create collages of fashion to show my readers. It is so far a rather fun site that I think will be very useful, so I feel good passing it on. The site is Polyvor and it produces some great results.  Here is one of my first attempts, in keeping with my steampunk nature of course.

This book kept me up at night, both while reading it and after. It is so vivid and well written that I was actually worried and scared for the characters, almost feeling what they felt. All in all an amazing novel.

Review: Death in the Clouds

Death in the Clouds by Agatha Christie

My rating: 4 of 5 stars


Totally saw that coming. But not from any actual clues, more from a writer perspective of knowing what the author tends to do with her characters.



Overall a very interesting book that kept me reading all day during breaks and after work. I am surprised I got anything done today actually. I am really getting into Agatha Christie and look forward to reading more of her novels. My local library really needs to get the whole collection in.

Review: Taken at the Flood

Taken at the Flood by Agatha Christie

This one I both liked and did not like. While the mystery itself was very interesting and not easily figured out, it was the last chapter that really bugged me.



So Rowley is a murder and he tried to kill Lynn in a "If I can't have you no one will" kind of way. AND SHE GOES BACK TO HIM!!!! Because he is dangerous and not the safe man she thought he was. Are you kidding me? That is so not a healthy relationship. So much for women's lib right that. And this is written by a woman.



But other than that last chapter I am going to ignore, it was a pretty good book.

The Mysterious Affair at Styles by Agatha Christie

I really like this book. I had never actually read anything by Agatha Christie before, so this was rather nice. Though I usually prefer to be able to figure out the culprit myself, and while you might have been able to do that with this story, (which I highly doubt), it was still very good and interesting. I will now be reading a lot more by her, and more mysteries in general.

Review: Louis XIV and Twenty Million Frenchmen

Louis XIV and Twenty Million Frenchmen by Pierre Goubert

The author, Pierre Goubert, seems a bit caddy and pessimistic when you first read this book. The first pages give you an indication of it right off the bat. However this is a very good book and does a rather great job of pulling together the France of the time and the man who ruled it. You do have to know a lot about the time as there are no introductions to the rest of Europe or those who went before Louis XIV that are mentioned many times. And the author assumes the reader will know what he is talking about when he brings up French political history, as well as that of Spain, England, Holland, and most importantly, the Empire. Luckly I just finished reading The Age of Religious Wars, 1559-1715 so i was moderately prepared for the references to Cromwell, William, and Leopold. I suggest this book to those who are really interested in the time and particularly in France's history. But, you do have to come in with a fair bit of prior knowledge. You have been warned.
